St. John’s Hosts Diabetes Open House
10/28/2009
Joplin, Mo. – St. John’s Nutrition, Wellness and Diabetes Center will host an open house on November 2 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Main Lobby. The event will feature screenings, vendor booths, diabetes information and product samples and door prizes. Vendors range from American Diabetes Association to diabetes supply companies and fitness clubs. The free screenings will include:
- Blood pressure
- Blood sugar
- Diabetes Aware online risk assessment
- Kidney screenings by National Kidney Foundation
The open house is free and open to the public. St. John’s registered dietitians will be available to discuss individual needs and provide assistance. Patients with diabetes will benefit from the wide variety of services and products available. Professionals from St. John’s Nutrition, Wellness and Diabetes Center will be on hand to discuss their nationally recognized Outpatient Diabetes Self-Management Program.
People without diabetes are also encouraged to attend since nearly a quarter of diabetic patients don’t even know they have the disease. Screenings and risk assessments can help determine risk for developing diabetes and detect early stages of the disease.
