St. John’s WorkPartners Occupational Medicine Designated Vaccination Center
The Missouri State Health Department and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have designated St. John’s WorkPartners Occupational Medicine as a Yellow Fever Vaccination Center.
Yellow fever occurs in Africa and South America. It is a viral disease transmitted between humans by a mosquito. Yellow fever is a very rare cause of illness in travelers, but most countries have regulations and requirements for yellow fever vaccination that must be met prior to entering the country.
The yellow fever vaccine is a live virus vaccine that has been used for several decades. A single dose confers immunity lasting 10 years or more. If a person is at continued risk off yellow fever infection, a booster dose is needed every 10 years. This vaccine is only administered at designated yellow fever vaccination centers; the locations of registered yellow fever vaccination sites can be viewed at the CDC Travelers’ Health website at www.cdc.gov under the Yellow Fever Vaccination Clinics link.
Yellow fever vaccination requirements and recommendations for specific countries are available from St. John’s WorkPartners Occupational Medicine. For more information call 417.781.2004 or visit the clinic at 4500 E. 32nd Street, Joplin, Mo. St. John’s WorkPartners also offers other travel vaccinations along with travel physicals, and will research your destination and advise on any recommended or required vaccinations.
