Dr. Ernest Bhend, an ophthalmologist with St. John’s Regional Medical Center, will be making several presentations at Joplin schools. Dr. Bhend will be speaking about the eye, including basic physiology, proper care and safety. He plans on giving an informal and interactive presentation that will last approximately 30 minutes. Dr. Bhend is scheduled to speak at the following schools:
- Stapleton Elementary - Feb. 23 @ 1:30 p.m.
- McKinley Elementary - March 14 @ 9:00 a.m.
- South Middle School - April 4 all morning
- South Middle School - April 5 all afternoon
Students will have the opportunity to disassemble a model of the human eye and to look through various lenses that simulate vision problems.
Dr. Bhend, a native of Joplin, completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Mason Eye Institute at the University of Missouri-Columbia Hospitals and Clinics in June 2005. Dr. Bhend’s office is located at 2817 McClelland Blvd., Suite 151, in Joplin, MO where he practices Adult and Pediatric Ophthalmology.
