St. John’s Teams With MSSU To Offer Culture Fair
St. John’s Regional Medical Center will host a Culture Fair on April 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Main Lobby. Dr. Pedro Talavera and Dr. James Kilpatrick with Missouri Southern State University will be on hand to promote its partnership with St. John’s to offer a Certificate in Medical Interpretation.
After MSSU students finish the two courses required to earn a Certificate in Medical Interpretation, they will then complete an interpretation internship at St. John’s.
There will be tables with information and educational materials on the various cultures most represented among the patient population at St. John’s. There will also be a demonstration of a computer interpretation device being utilized at St. John’s that will enable instant communication with sign language experts.
“St. John’s is committed to increasing cultural awareness and sensitivity among our employees, patients and visitors,” said Colleen Brooks, Coordinator of Interpreter Services. ; “We are so excited to team with MSSU and offer this invaluable service to our patients.”
**We would like to invite all media to our Culture Fair at 12:30 p.m. in the Main Lobby.
