Services Planned to Honor Fromer Leader
St. John's Regional Medical Center plans to honor the life of Robert J. Fanning, who served as President/Chief Executive Officer from 1984-1993 with an upcoming memorial service. Fanning died on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at his home in Kansas City, after a battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Linda and three children, James, Robert and Susan. Fanning was 67 years old.
Fanning joined St. John’s in June 1981 as Executive Vice President and served in that capacity until he was appointed President in 1983. He was officially named President and Chief Executive Officer in 1984. Under his guidance, many new programs and services were initiated, including regional Cardiovascular and Oncology programs, Cardiac Rehabilitation, The Sports Medicine Clinic, MedFlight, and the regional Transplant Center.
“Bob had a true love for St. John’s. He knew the operation inside and out, as far as the hospital is concerned, and we made substantial progress while Bob was CEO,” says Bob Lamb, who served as Chairman of St. John’s Board while Fanning was CEO. “He had a lot of empathy and a genuine interest in the welfare and care of patients.”
A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 2415 S. Moffet Ave, on Monday, March 6th at 10:00 a.m. Friends and family and invited to attend.
