Jerry Lewis Cancels

St. John's Regional Medical Center announces a last minute change to this year’s Life Fair after our featured guest speaker, Jerry Lewis cancels. Jerry issued this statement:

"I feel very badly that I will be unable to join you as planned for your Annual Wellness Event. I am involved with a film production in Europe, and the schedule will make it impossible for me to be in Missouri on April 8th. Please accept my apology for the inconvenience, along with my best wishes for a very successful event."

While it’s unfortunate that St. John’s will not be able to host the original guest speaker, we have been working to bring in a replacement for the Joplin community. We are pleased to announce Emmy award-winning actress, Rue McClanahan has been named our new guest speaker at the Life Fair. Rue is most recognized for her role as Blanche Devereaux on Golden Girls. In addition to her Emmy-award winning role, she is also known for her television role of Vivian Harmon in the series Maude. She also starred in her own series Apple Pie, and as Aunt Fran in NBC’s Mama’s Family. She has starred in numerous television movies, including To My Daughter, The Dreamer of Oz, The Man in the Brown Suit, The Margaret Mitchell Story, A Christmas Love, and the soon to be seen Columbo. Rue is also an accomplished stage actress, starring in a number of Broadway productions including Jimmy Shine with Dustin Hoffman and leading roles in Plaza Suite and Sticks and Bones.

What you may not know about Rue is that she is a wife, mother and Breast Cancer Survivor. She speaks to her audience about the emotional, physical, and psychological obstacles a woman must overcome in order to survive this deadly battle. She looks at the whole range of difficult choices women are faced with when diagnosed with breast cancer – the moment they learn of it, telling their loved ones, the medical processes involved, acceptance, and recovery.

Plans for the 19th Annual Life Fair continue and St. John’s is hoping for another successful event. The date, time and location remain the same as originally planned. The Life Fair will be held on April 8th, 2006 at John Q. Hammons Convention Center in Joplin. The event is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. All activities are free to the public. Our Guest Speaker, Rue McClanahan is scheduled to take the stage from 12:15 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

The media will have an opportunity to interview Rue McClanahan after the Life Fair. She will make herself available from 1:15 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. the day of the event. Please contact Bre LaFerla at (417) 625-2260 to set up an interview.
