Can Blueberries Fight Disease?
Often called a superfood by nutritionists, blueberries are a small but potent fruit. They boast a number of disease-fighting antioxidants, including vitamin C. Antioxidants help protect against free radicals, which are unstable molecules that can cause cell damage, possibly leading to conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s.
Fresh blueberry season lasts from mid-April to late September, beginning in the Southern states and moving north as the season progresses. For the rest of the year, you can find blueberries frozen, canned, and dried at most grocery stores.
