St. John's HealthMinute

5/1/2006

Chances are we all know someone diagnosed with breast cancer. It may be a family member, friend or even a celebrity, you’d like to know. It wasn’t that long ago singer Sheryl Crow was diagnosed with breast cancer, reminding women to get their mammograms. Doctors admit, mammograms aren't perfect, but they're still the best tool we have for detecting breast cancer in its early -- and most curable and treatable -- stages. As for those who have an excuse for everything, you can’t use the excuse that you can’t afford it. That’s because many health care centers, including St. John’s offer free or low-cost mammograms to women who can't afford them or do not have health insurance.

And if you want to learn more about breast cancer, the risks and treatment options, mark this on your calendar. St. John’s will be hosting two women’s health talks featuring Dr. Walter Dandridge. He’ll explain what people need to know about Breast Cancer. The talks will be held this Thursday evening and Friday afternoon.
